American Pipit
Anthus rubescens
This American Pipit was observed from the Landfill Loop Trail at Wildcat Marsh in Richmond, CA on January 27, 2015. I have also seen them at Coyote Hills Regional Park, Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, and at Meeker Slough in Richmond, CA. A common aspect of these sightings is that the birds were always on the ground, and all have been close to water. However, this species has a wide distribution. It can be found in the Arctic tundra in the summer, and during the winter it is found in the south and west of the United States as well as Mexico.
