Pelagic Cormorant
Phalacrocorax pelagicus
Pelagic Cormorants with chick at their nesting site at Cabrillo Point in Mendocino County, CA (they like steep cliffs along rocky shorelines). The parents are reported to be monogamous, at least during one breeding season. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs. The incubating parent always faces the cliff with its tail extending over the nest. Photo taken June 18, 2014.
