Wild Turkey
Meleagris gallopavo
This Wild Turkey decided to visit my yard in Berkeley, CA on April 29, 2016. It is only the second time in 30+ years that I recall such a visitor, but it is not that unusual to see a few of them in the Berkeley hills, or a stray on the UC Berkeley campus. They are more common in open wooded areas like Tilden Regional Park and in the woods of Orinda, CA near the San Pablo and Briones Reservoirs. Wild Turkeys are non-migratory and can be found throughout most of the U.S.
