Savannah Sparrow
Passerculus sandwichensis
The Savannah Sparrow is often found in marshy or weedy areas near bodies of water. With their heavily-streaked breasts, they look similar to Song Sparrows but usually have a distinctive yellow wash on their lores. The Savannah Sparrow in the upper left was observed from the Bay Trail at the Richmond Shoreline, CA near the 51st Street connector on October 5, 2014. The upper right photo is from Bodega Bay on May 14, 2016. The lower left photo was taken at the Hayward Regional Shoreline on June 15, 2016. The lower right photo is from southern California, the San Elijo Lagoon in San Diego County. (Click on images to see enlarged versions.)
