Bushtit
Psaltriparus minimus
Bushtits often appear in flocks of 8-12 birds, moving loosely as a group from one bush, shrub or tree to the next. The two shown in these photographs look nearly the same except for one small difference. Do you see it? It is the eyes. The one on the left has a dark eye, while the one on the right has a pale iris around its dark pupil. Female bushtits have the pale iris (similar to the eyes of both male and female Wrentits), males do not. (Click on images to see enlarged versions.)
